About Kris:
Kris started sewing at an early age in 4-H and has never stopped. She acquired a Textile and Clothing minor in college and sewed a lot of her own clothes. She started quilting in the '80's. In 1990 she took a class from Harriet Hargrave and that has defined her quilting ever since. In 1993 she was the first president of a new guild the Badlands Quilters Guild. The guild started a retreat to bring new quilting info to the SW Corner of the State and has allowed Kris to take classes from many national teachers.
Kris was born and raised in SW North Dakota and lives on a ranch "in the middle of nowhere" with her husband.
Quilting philosophy:
"I feel that quilting offers me an outlet for my creativity. The world of quilting has expanded so much in the years I have been quilting and offers so many different areas. Everyone that loves to play with fabric can find an area that they enjoy It doesn't matter if it is a prize winning quilt or a quilt to throw in the car for a picnic, as long as you enjoy the process."
I enjoy the whole process of quilting from picking out the fabrics, to piecing, to quilting the quilt. I love to play with my sewing machine and use metallic and decorative threads. Lately I have been working on free motion machine quilting without marking your top. I prefer machine piecing and very seldom do the "A" word (applique) unless it is by machine
I have two small wall hangings in the process of hand quilting. One I started 9 years ago and the other seven years ago. I still hope to finish them some day!
Experience:
Kris has taken classes from nationally known teachers, Libby Lehmann, Loraine Stangness, Jan Krenz, Karen Combs, and Gail Garber to name a few. She has been teaching quilting since 1995 and enjoys sharing her knowledge with others. She has received many ribbons at local fairs and won a grand champion at the ND State Fair.
